Here are some pictures from "Bay to Breakers". This first one is the legitmate runners at the front of the race. It soon degenerated (all in fun)

The Dallas Cowboys Sharks The First of Many Elvi. I'm assuming that Elvi is the plural of Elvis.

Pics from Day 1

Me sitting on the steps of City Hall. This is where Rosie O'Donnell and her partner were married. I guess this is some sort of tourist attraction now but it is very close to where Alisha lives so we walk past there all the time

"In and Out Burger" is a reason unto itself to come to California. More commonly found in Southern Cal, this store is located right near Fishermans Wharf and is the only one in the city. Their burgers and fries are incredible and reasonably priced, the staff well trained and their stores are clean (and their milkshakes ROCK!!!).

As you will see, the first day was themed "Places to Eat". For dinner, Alisha and I attempted to go to the only Egyptian restaurant in the city. A fantastic place called Al Masri. This picture is taken about a block from the restaurant and is a stunning view back into the city from a hilltop very near the Presidio. Sadly, the owners of the restaurant were on vacation and the place closed. (Attempt for dinner #1) Located across the street is a Russian restaurant. We decided that we'd try that. Upon entering, we discovered it was closed for a private event. (Attempt for dinner #2)

Here I am outside a Eritrean restaurant. Eritrea is a country (kinda) in the horn of Africa. For most of its history it hasn't had a functioning government ,although it was a member of the "Coalition of the Willing". How a country without a government can declare that its government (which doesn't exist) can be a member of of anything is beyond me but I guess that is something only those remaining Bush supporters can make sense of. Of course, if their STILL supporting this trainwreck of an administration how logical can they actually be?

The food here was actually very good. It is served family style with a spongy bread that is used to eat the food, no utensils are used. Unfortunately we were starving and it was late for me since I was still on eastern time. The restaurant was far from being adequately staffed and it took nearly two hours to get our food and eat. I would recommend a try at the style of food but certainly wouldn't suggest Assab without reservations.

San Francisco!

I'm out in San Fran helping Alisha recover from post surgery surgery. She is having some metal removed from her foot. She fell back in October and broke her foot and the doctors put screws and pins and all that good stuff in to hold it together. Now, it all must come out. Enjoy some pictures!
We got up this morning and watched and then participated in "Bay to Breakers" (for a complete understanding, check out http://www.ingbaytobreakers.com/main.html). B2B is actually a 7.2 mile marathon that attracts world class runners in a tough competition that leads them from the San Francisco Bay to an area where the ocean and the bay meet called "The Breakers". But being that this is SF, NOTHING goes without a bit of chicanery with it. There ars several posts with some pictures of my first day in SF as well as this mornings race. Blogger won't allow me to post more than four photos at a time so I apologize for the series of posts...but enjoy!

...and I'm back

I know I've been missing from the blog for a while so I thought I'd take a second and catch up everyone. I'm now moved in with my friend Billy and things are starting to settle down. The old apartment is nearly cleared out and I need to get in there this week and sweep and mop and get all the things finished on it.
I'm sorry to have to give it up but it'll be for the better in the long run I think. Things are changing rapidly at work and this will give me some flexibility if I need it. I should have a better understanding of where everything is going by mid summer. We have a third tentative agreement with them and should start voting on it next week. If it passes, we will all receive a nice chunk of cash as a result of a negotiated bankruptcy claim. That will allow me to make some other decisions as well.
I'm going out to see Alisha at the end of May in San Francisco. I'll take nearly any reason I can to head that direction as I love that city. Alisha is having foot surgery and she needs someone to watch over her after the surgery as there is anesthesia involved so I volunteered. Tough life, isn't it?
Billy and I are heading to the movies later tonight to see Superman 3. I hope it is good, I'm looking forward to it. I have been a fan of the first two and hope that the third entertains me as well.
I'm heading to Williamsburg, Va in July for my Uncle Eric's wedding. I'm also looking forward to that. Always good to get back with the family and see how everyone is doing. I'm sharing a hotel room with Grant which will be a lot of fun. We'll find something to get into, I'm sure.
Haven't had any decent picture taking trips of recent but I'm sure I'll get some while I'm out in San Fran and more when I'm in Williamsburg. I'm also looking forward to Smoke On the Water which is a chili festival in June here in Charleston. Always great food and I'm gonna drag Billy with me. I'll get some pics of that as well. I seem to be able to find something to get into whenever I need to.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to talking to everyone soon!
